When a monster saves you from other monsters, are you any better off?
Ash chokes the sky and my life as I knew it is long gone. Nuclear war left our planet a scarred husk, and those of us left fight tooth and nail to survive. There is hardly anything left to eat, except each other.
The lucky ones die quickly.
I’ve had a different kind of luck, but the bargain I made to stay alive is slowly killing me. The only question is, will I survive long enough for my bargain to save me? Or will all my hope turn to ash?
The Last Christmas
Published September 2014
“The Last Christmas” can be found within Christmas Greetings, a collection of Christmas stories/poems by local Louisville, KY writing group, the Cherokee Roundtable, which has been active in Louisville for over 30 years. Available for purchase on the publisher’s website.
A Christmas story about a house that is more than just wood and stone—it is the home and heart of its family.
I grew up in a house built in 1900 by my ancestors, on a farm where my family has lived and worked for nearly 200 years. It is a huge, 4 story house and gave me the best childhood a kid could ever ask for. That house meant everything to me, from a wonderful childhood, to my family history, ethos, and legacy.
Since I married and moved away, it has been sold and is now being restored and prepared to open as a historic landmark and event center.
